This wonderful bird can be found throughout New Guinea. The males are characterised by an ornamental plumage consisting of six wired head plumes. During courtship, they perform ballerina-like dances and spread out their "skirt" on a patch of forest floor. Originally published in the year 1835 in the first and most comprehensive work on birds of paradise.
