SGD 48.80

North Bridge Road is a historic street located in the central part of Singapore. It is one of the oldest roads in the city, and its history can be traced back to the early 19th century.

In 1862, the wooden bridge connecting North Bridge Road with South Bridge Road on the other side of the river was demolished and replaced with an iron bridge. The bridge was completed in 1869 and was named the Elgin Bridge after the governor of the Straits Settlements at the time.

The completion of the Elgin Bridge further spurred the growth and development of North Bridge Road as a major commercial hub. Many shophouses and businesses were established along the road, catering to the needs of traders, merchants, and residents in the area.

Over the years, North Bridge Road underwent many changes, reflecting the growth and development of Singapore as a modern city. The road was widened and modernised, and many of the old shophouses and businesses were replaced by modern buildings.
