Carica Papaya native to the American tropics, but nowadays naturalised and grown all throughout the East Indies. Common in Southeast Asian cuisine, the leaves and flower buds are prepared in a stir-fried dish, while the young unripe fruit is chopped up for salads. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 by Berthe van Nooten, as one of a series of forty Southeast Asian botanical lithographs depicting fruits and flowers.
