The Garcinia Mangostana is native to the tropical lands surrounding the Indian Ocean, including the Malay Archipelago. In South-East Asia, mangosteen is commonly known as the "Queen of Fruit", it had deep purple inedible rind hides with a white, edible flesh. The flesh and other parts are used in traditional medicines as well as dye-making. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 Berthe van Nooten.
