This bright red fruit is known as "Jambu Bol" in Bahasa Indonesia and Malay Apple in English. Native to the Malay Archipelago and parts of Australia, this fruit has been cultivated since ancient times and is popular even today. The Malay apple has a rather bland but refreshing taste and is commonly made into jam. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 by Berthe van Nooten, as one of a series of forty Southeast Asian botanical lithographs depicting fruits and flowers.
