The Lagerstroemia Regia is an ornamental plant much loved for the bright purple petals of its flowers. Native to Southern Asia, the plant was grown in private gardens all over the Indies and occasionally used as a jamu (herbal drink) ingredient. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 by Berthe van Nooten, as one of a series of forty Southeast Asian botanical lithographs depicting fruits and flowers.
