Caladium bicolor, also known as elephant ears, hearts of Jesus, and Angel Wings were actually native to the Americas before being naturalised in the East Indies. The vivid red colour of the leaves made them popular ornamental plants. These were also called Kaladi in Malay. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 Berthe van Nooten.
